Grandchildren
Grandchildren
Since their first release, Everlasting (2010), Grandchildren have evolved from pioneers of Philadelphia’s burgeoning DIY scene into a musical powerhouse known for their unique cinematic blend of pop, folk and electronica. A product of a nomadic coming of age across three continents, frontman Aleks Martray settled in Philly to form a family of musicians that brought to life his eclectic sound - Roman Salcic (drums), John Vogel (synth), Russell Brodie (bass), and Adam Katz (guitar). Their next two records took them from the symphonic Golden Age (2013) to the pop-driven ZUNI (2015). After attaining road warrior status through several US tours and sharing the stage with such bands as Man Man, O’Death, and Thievery Corporation, the group went back into the studio in search of a sound that would capture the raw unbridled energy of their live shows. The result is their new single Phantom Pains, a dark and soulful requiem for love lost that digs deep into the band’s emotional core and orchestral sensibilities. The track features the soulful harmonies of female vocalist Shari Bolar in her debut as the newest Grandchild.
Northern Liberties
Northern Liberties
Northern Liberties are a three piece band consisting of drums, percussion, bass, and voices. Northern Liberties formed deep underground in the year 2000 as an outgrowth the West Philadelphia basement band scene. Brothers Justin and Marc Duerr, on percussion/vocals and drums, respectively, joined long-time friend Kevin with the idea of forming a band. The unusual instrumentation was a result of the three deciding to work with what and whom they were most comfortable with rather than bringing in other musicians - thus a new and idiosyncratic sound was forged, more out of practicality than any desire to be deliberately offbeat. Northern Liberties receive their music from an unnameable/indescribable dimension, which, while being impossible to accurately describe using any language including music, is most clearly shown in rough outline by the occult practice of musical realization.
Sleek Machine
Sleek Machine is a four-piece Psychedelic rock group based in Philadelphia. The group consists of Alexander Savoth, Michael James Murray, Bennett Daniels and Chris Giraldi. As the group’s primary songwriter, Savoth writes melody-driven guitar rock with a haunting edge. Their self-titled EP was released in 2015, and can be found on most digital music outlets. They are currently in the process of writing their first full-length record, which they will begin tracking in 2016.
