Nicklas Hughes
Nicklas Hughes
Multi-instrumentalist and singer/songwriter Nicklas Hughes began his career as a drummer for a variety of Philadelphia indie rock bands in the 2000s. A twist of fate in 2014 gave him the chance to pursue the solo project he'd been quietly working on in his bedroom studio. The independently released full-length, 'Miniature Galaxy', combined the '80s pop influences of his youth with the songwriting and production style of contemporaries like Radiohead, Death Cab for Cutie, Washed Out, and Bear in Heaven.

After two years of writing and recording, Nicklas releases his second self-produced solo record, 'Games' in 2016. Recorded at Sine Studios (Buried Beds, Sun Cinema), and out September 30th on Black Rd Records, 'Games' continues where 'Miniature Galaxy' left off - fusing the late '80s pop of Peter Gabriel and Fleetwood Mac with the dark moods of 2010s indie rock, electronica and dance. Lyrically, the new set of songs explores financial struggles, the death of influential figures, and the challenges of modern relationships.
Upperfields is made from the musical partnership of Shaun Gould's ardent, soul-searching alt-folk and Lee Clarke's adventurous electronic pop. Joined by Justin Leigh (drums) and Justin Nawn (Lead Guitar), they make music that is expansive, lyrical, and richly layered. One writer aptly described it as 'sunset soundscapes and optimistic anthems'. In their music, one hears the influence of Neil Young, Leonard Cohen, and Radiohead, as well as an affinity with contemporary bands like Beach House, Fleet Foxes, and Caveman. July 1st saw a creative process of intense devotion culminate in the release of their six-song EP, Waterways. Their hard work is quickly winning an audience: Their debut's two singles, "Seascape" and "Runner", have drawn attention from influential blogs like YVYNYL and The Key for their sweet melodies, raw production, and powerful lyrical imagery.
My Home is the Sea
“My Home is the Sea” use cascading drum machines, swirling keyboards, and ethereal vocals to capture your attention in this age of distraction. “Do As You’re Told” is an explosive anthem questioning the dynamics of power and our inescapable need for material things. Newcomer Natalie Wimberg’s voice effortlessly swings from delicate and alluring into an all out powerhouse while Marc Neibauer’s vintage synths and shoegaze aesthetics harken back to the golden age of alternative. Fans of Cocteau Twins, dark 1990s Trip Hop and melodic hooks rejoice.
