If Leonard Cohen and PJ Harvey had a baby who grew up listening to The Smiths, Nina Simone and old Rolling Stones records, that baby might form a band that sounds like DIVERS, a newly formed rock quartet from Philadelphia starring local sweethearts Emily Ana Zeitlyn (The Weeds), Ross Bellenoit (Birdie Busch), Tom Bendel (Buried Beds) and Todd Erk (Hoots & Hellmouth). DIVERS use equal parts stabbing lyric, extreme dynamic and darling melody to whisper to the sadder side of your soul. With one recording so far (a free download at) DIVERS plan to record a full-length album this fall and will continue to play locally this summer.
Kate Faust
Kate Faust
For years now, the chameleon that is Kate Faust has been lighting up the Philadelphia music scene with her incredible vocal presence. Finally, she has stepped out on her own with her debut EP, Crucial Companion. Her brand of electro-pop draws on the sounds of Bjork and Little Dragon. Faust makes good on these influences and expands on them, crafting a sound all her own as she meshes her stunning vocals with driving beats and beautiful harmonic textures. Her songs reach a level of intimacy that can’t help but draw in the listener, as her tender and sensual voice entice the imagination.

Key tracks would be the incredibly endearing and catchy first track “Bring on the Healing,” with the arresting and ethereal, “Crucial Companion” not far behind. To catch the surprising depth and soulfulness of Faust’s voice, be sure to listen to “Heartbeat.”

With this strong debut, as well as a new EP in the works, Faust is an artist to keep on your radar.
Sonja Sofya
Sonja Sofya
Sonja Sofya honed her musical chops through intense classical piano and voice study, but found a creative outlet through songwriting at an early age. “I had some friends who formed an indie-rock band my freshman year of high school,” she recalls, “But though I begged, they wouldn’t let me join -- it wasn’t something girls were supposed to do. So I decided I’d write my own music instead!” Years later, Sonja has carved out a reputation for “nimble pianowork and powerhouse vocals” (Philly Current Magazine), and was awarded Best Female Solo Artist at the 2017 Homey Awards (sponsored by WSTW Radio in DE). Sonja has performed throughout Philadelphia and the Mid Atlantic in rooms like World Cafe Live, Milkboy, Boot & Saddle, The Tin Angel, and North Star Bar (Philly), Caffe Vivaldi, Jalopy Theatre, and Pete's Candy Store (NYC), Club Passim (Boston), Radio Bean (Burlington), Midtown Scholar (Harrisburg), and The Black Fox (Washington, DC). She has shared the stage with artists such as Franz Nicolay of The Hold Steady, Ben Arnold, Chris Kasper, Birdie Busch, Aaron Parnell Brown, and Joe D'Amico of Mason Porter. Her debut album, “Patterns We Know”, is available at sonjasofya.bandcamp.com.
