Made In Heights
Made In Heights
MADE IN HEIGHTS is a pop fiction group comprised of Alexei Saba (Sabzi) and Kelsey Bulkin.

The two met at a wedding in Northern California in 2009 where Alexei was the DJ and Kelsey was the wedding singer. At the time Alexei was producing music in New York City and Kelsey was earning a graduate engineering degree in Philadelphia. Their friendship developed over a series of hangouts in NYC where the two created The Heights – a weird world that could only be explored through the art that would fall out of it and land to earth.

In December of 2010 the duo set up in a Seattle studio for three days and cranked out a four- song EP titled Winter Pigeons (Songs To Raise Your Dead Spirits). An unexpected holiday gift for friends, family, and Sabzi’s loyal fan base, Winter Pigeons delivered a heavy dose of magic that spread far and wide, sprouting hot pockets of heights fans high and low. The duo would follow up this first EP with Aporia: In These Streets in 2011, which one writer compared to “Vashti Bunyan bouncing out of the trunk of a cadillac”. Aporia would build upon their myth weaving, growing their instantly distinctive and paradoxical sound.

Then in 2012 they went dark. But for the videos uploaded by fans, all searches for the band led to blank pages. It seemed The Heights had vanished.

In July of 2013 the duo turned up in Los Angeles, playing small live shows and house parties. In October they opened for Blue Scholars to a sold out crowd at Williamsburg Hall of Music. In November they announced their return with the release of three singles - Death, Pirouette, Murakami - and The Woods beat tape. A second full-length album is due in the spring of 2014 accompanied by a live shows set to anchor MADE IN HEIGHTS into a living fantasy. But it is hard to know what to expect from these two except one thing: they make their own rules.
Kate Faust
Kate Faust
For years now, the chameleon that is Kate Faust has been lighting up the Philadelphia music scene with her incredible vocal presence. Finally, she has stepped out on her own with her debut EP, Crucial Companion. Her brand of electro-pop draws on the sounds of Bjork and Little Dragon. Faust makes good on these influences and expands on them, crafting a sound all her own as she meshes her stunning vocals with driving beats and beautiful harmonic textures. Her songs reach a level of intimacy that can’t help but draw in the listener, as her tender and sensual voice entice the imagination.

Key tracks would be the incredibly endearing and catchy first track “Bring on the Healing,” with the arresting and ethereal, “Crucial Companion” not far behind. To catch the surprising depth and soulfulness of Faust’s voice, be sure to listen to “Heartbeat.”

With this strong debut, as well as a new EP in the works, Faust is an artist to keep on your radar.
