YDI
YDI
This band, whose name is pronounced "Why Die?", released one great single in 1983. The A Place In the Sun 7" was released by the band as Blood Bubble Records #1. Musically, this band had more in common with the tough skinhead sounds of Detroit and Boston than the lighthearted skatecore most of their Philly peers played. In songs like "Mad at the World," singer Jackal rips through lyrics like "Look into my eyes and see / I'm not normal you can believe / Savage fury, uncontrollable rage / I'm gonna put you in the grave." One interesting thing about YDI is that although playing a genre of music often associated with sketchy racial politics, both Jackal and drummer Howard were black. In "Categorized," the lead track on Side B, Jackal barks "Prejudiced eyes look upon me / Judge me by sight, take away my rights / Not knowing what I'm like or what I can do / I'm stuck with a label till the day I die." The band also dropped two fine tracks for the Philly compilation LP Get Off My Back with crazies like FOD, McRad, and Autistic Behavior.

WAYWARD ONES CAME TOGETHER FOR THEIR LOVE OF EARLY 80'S HARDCORE PUNK, STREET PUNK, OI!, PLAYING LIVE SHOWS, BOOZE, HAVING FUN, SAYING WHAT THEY GOTTA SAY, AND THE PHILADELPHIA PUNK SCENE. WAYWARD ONES WAS FORMED IN SOUTH PHILADELPHIA IN SEPTEMBER 2012 BY RYAN UNPATRIOTIC ON GUITAR AND VOCALS AND MAXX POLISH ON BASS... WHO BOTH INTENDED TO PLAY FAST PUNK INSPIRED BY THE MUSIC WE GREW UP TO AND LOVE TODAY. AFTER WORKING ON A FEW SONGS WITH A BORROWED DRUMMER WAYWARD ONES RECRUITED TEMPLE UNIVERSITY STUDENT MUPPET TO JOIN UP WITH THEM.. AT WHICH POINT MAXX DECIDED TO TRADE OFF TO PLAYING DRUMS AND MUPPET TOOK OVER THE BASS SPOT SECURING THE COMPLETE 3 PIECE LINE-UP. IN NOVEMBER OF 2012, SHORTLY AFTER AQUIRING MUPPET, WAYWARD ONES RELEASED "THE CATHERINE ST. DEMOS" WHICH WAS A 5 SONG ROUGH DEMO THEY RECORDED THEMSELVES. THE RELEASE WAS WELL RECIEVED AND LED TO THEM PLAYING NUMEROUS LOCAL SHOWS ALL THROUGHOUT THE AREA IN 2013. IN NOVEMBER OF 2013 WAYWARD ONES RELEASED THEIR FIRST EP "PISSED, POOR AND PUNK" RECORDED BY GOOD FRIEND KENNY CRACKPIPE AT SNAKE MOUNTAIN STUDIOS IN PINE HILL, NJ. THEY RELEASED THE EP 100 % DIY FOR $2 EACH; WHICH WAS THE ONLY WAY THEY WOULD HAVE HAD IT. "PISSED, POOR AND PUNK" WAS ALSO VERY WELL RECIEVED AND LED UP TO WAYWARD ONES SHARING THE STAGE WITH SOME OF THEIR FAVORITE BANDS SUCH AS THE VIRUS, COMBAT CRISIS, BLANKS 77, URBAN WASTE, REAGAN YOUTH, LEFT ALONE, OFFICER DOWN, PONX ATTAX, SNIPER 66 ETC. IN 2014. IN THE SPRING TIME WAYWARD ONES WERE BACK IN THE STUDIO WITH CRACKPIPE LAYING DOWN ANOTHER 6 TRACKS FOR THEIR SECOND EP TITLED "FUCK COPS" WHICH THEY RELEASED IN THE SAME FASHION AS THE FIRST EP. SHORTLY AFTER THE RELEASE MAXX DECIDED TO CALL IT A DAY WITH THE BAND AND WAS QUICKLY REPLACED BY LONG TIME FRIEND AND PHILLY'S PUNX GLORY DOLE'S DRUMMER MCHENRY. MCHENRY HAD FILLED IN ON DRUMS FOR WAYWARD ONES IN THE PAST FOR SHOWS AND COVER SONGS FROM TIME TO TIME. SO HE BLENDED IN QUICKLY AND WAYWARD ONES MARCHED ON. SHOWS ARE BEING SET UP NOW FOR 2015 AND THE BAND WILL NOT BE HARD TO FIND. COME OUT. HAVE SOME BEERS. SING ALONG. UP THE PUNX.
